Congrats Allam Mella, Daby Award Winner 2020

On Tuesday, July 28, Allam Mella was awarded the 2020 William K Daby ‘Find Life’s Surprises’ Award. This award is given annually in memory of Providence Journal photographer William Daby by his widow, Dot. The winner is always an AS220 Youth alum or member close to aging out. The prize is $1000 toward photography equipment and a year of membership at AS220 Industries for free.

This year’s winner is Allam Mella! Allam is a Teaching Assistant at Youth and an Emerging Member at Industries. He has been part of the AS220 community at Youth since 2017, where he took his first photography classes. He quickly became a leader and mentor in the studio and began teaching Darkroom classes for his peers in 2018. In 2019, he became an Industries Emerging Member, where he has been making use of the Media Lab and light studio. Allam does freelance photography and hopes to do editorial photography later in his career. Scroll down to see some of Allam’s work.
