FOR YOUTH

Any Rhode Island youth age 14-20 with an interest in the arts is eligible to become a member. We recommend that youth come for a tour of the studio before signing up, to make sure the program is a good fit.

SCHEDULE A TOUR

If you’re ready to apply, download our membership application and bring it to us. If you’re under 18, you will need parent or guardian signatures on the form.

At AS220, we have a new member orientation at the start of each term. New members need to attend these orientations so they get the low-down on how the Studio works. They also will get connected to a staff advisor.

Once we have your application, we will invite you to the next orientation and get you  started with classes.

FOR DCYF PROVIDERS

If you’d like to refer youth to our program, please contact Director Anne Kugler at anne@as220.org.  Youth will need to come to the Studio for a tour and complete a membership application; however, we may be able to expedite the enrollment process.

FOR ADULTS: VOLUNTEERING

There are a number of ways adults can get involved with AS220 Youth.

Mentoring. We link youth incarcerated at the RI Training School with adult mentors from the community. Mentors and mentees meet once a week at the facility and, after release, in the community.

We ask adults to make a one year commitment to mentoring, as it takes time to build a solid relationship with teens.

Mentors are paid a small monthly stipend, and we cover expenses for activities like meals and movies. Mentors are required to turn in monthly time logs that document visits with mentees.

If mentoring is a bigger commitment than you can make, there are other volunteer opportunities.

  • If you are a professional artist or musician, participating in our quarterly crits
  • Proposing a workshop of your own design
  • Helping youth write resumes and artist statements
  • Coming in as a guest chefs for our cooking class

All potential volunteers and mentors at AS220 Youth must get a BCI done.

Contact Youth Director Anne Kugler at anne@as220.org to get more info on volunteering.
