AS220 Youth Hasbro mentorship
Recently AS220 youth partnered with Hasbro to create a mentorship program for youth to gain hands-on experience from professionals in the fields they are interested in. Currently there are four youth meeting with mentors, building permanent relationships with professionals in their chosen field. Both AS220 and Hasbro look forward to continuing the program and opening it up for others as current youth cycle out.
Youth meet with their mentors once a week to work on the project and talk about their challenges and progress. The initial meeting the youth had with their mentors outlined specifics interests, and highlighted different kinds of projects they would work on together to help gain the experience they were looking for.
We sat down with one of the youth currently enrolled in the mentorship; Justin Espinal, and asked him some questions about the program.
He was chosen for the first cycle of the program because during his time at AS220 Youth he has proven himself to be reliable and willing to learn skills that would be applicable to whatever he wants to do in life. Justin Believes it will be a beneficial experience working with Hasbro. Justin also thinks it will be a great learning experience to work with a great and known organization. While at Hasbro Justin is working on a script for an up and coming spider man toy, he plans on pitching it to one of his mentors friends who works in the hasbro toy division for Marvel. Justin is learning graphical skills and how to market himself while at Hasbro.
Both AS220 and Hasbro look forward to continuing the program and opening it up for others as current youth cycle out.
