I did not consider myself a good artist when I started attending programs here at the AS220 Youth Studio. I was asked to create a life size photo collage for a mural project the photo class is working on. I approached the assignment with an open mind but I did not think I would be very good at it. When I stood back and looked at what I had done I liked it, it was nuts. I also thought learning how to use the darkroom to develop my film and photos would be complicated. Since then I have become better. I now know how to set up the darkroom chemistry and am getting a better feel for determining the exposure and contrast of my photographs. I like the environment here at the AS220 Youth Studio. It is calm, peaceful and there is no tension. Because of this I am able to concentrate and to stay on track. I am looking forward to continue my photo education during the AS220 Youth summer work program.
