Summer Employment Update: Touring Hasbro Toys Inc.

Yesterday the AS220 Youth crew got to see all the top secret ins and outs of the Hasbro Toys headquarters in Pawtucket. Toy engineer and tour guide Andy, brought us to all of the different departments in the building. We saw the prototypes for molds of toys and learned about the different processes that go into making them. We learned about electronic rapid prototyping where designers create toys using programs like Blender and then print 3D models in house…using machines that cost more than a house! We even visited the chemistry lab where we found out how they make the Play Dough smell!

At the end of the day, the team met with Stephan, a doll designer with over 20 years of experience. We also met Ramone, who works on Transformers toy design team, and Sean and who designs logos and works on the branding for different toy lines. Finally, AS220 Youth members Patch, Justin, Edwin, and Doug met they’re Hasbro mentors for the first time which was very exciting.

This trip was not only fun but very informative. Youth employees got to see how people make a living painting dolls by hand or working in graphic design.
This was real exposure to real career paths and opportunities in the creative industry. Hopefully this trip inspires some of the youth members to apply to the internship program Hasbro offers…
